College Profile

Lehman College is the City University of New York’s only four-year college in the Bronx, serving the borough and surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center. To an enrolled student body of more than 12,000 students, Lehman offers 90 undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional education within a dynamic research environment.

Ranked as having the fourth highest mobility rate in the nation by the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Equality of Opportunity Project, Lehman is a proud catalyst for economic and social mobility for its students, almost half of whom are first generation college students, and over 90,000 alumni.

Lehman College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and the CUNY Athletic Conference. There are 10 women’s and men’s varsity sports: softball/baseball, basketball, indoor track, outdoor track, soccer, cross country, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball.

The spirit and tradition of international values have long been upheld at Lehman College. In 1946, the campus earned a place in world history when from March to August, at the urging of New York City officials, the United Nations held the first American meetings of the Security Council in the Old Gym Building where intercollegiate basketball, archery, swimming, and other sports have been played. The College participated in the United Nations’ 50th anniversary activities in 1995-96. Today, 98 cultures are represented on campus and 23% of the student body was born outside the United States. As part of the nation’s leading urban public university, Lehman College uplifts New Yorkers of all backgrounds. Join us!
