Hofstra University is a dynamic, private university where students succeed and study in about 140 undergraduate, 150 graduate programs of study, and a number of dual-degree programs. The various divisions of the University provide students with a broad array of academic offerings: Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Hofstra University Honors College; Frank G. Zarb School of Business; School of Communication; School of Education; School of Health Sciences and Human Services; Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University; Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine at Hofstra University; and the newly created School of Engineering and Applied Science.

A student-faculty ratio of 14-to-1 and an average undergraduate class size of 21 allow professors to teach small classes that emphasize interaction, critical thinking, and analysis.

Students are motivated and success-oriented, and Hofstra provides the resources they need to reach their goals: an outstanding faculty, extensive academic resources and state-of-the-art facilities. Hofstra’s faculty is one of its greatest resources. Ninety-two percent of full-time faculty hold the highest degree attainable in their fields. Faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship and research, and many have been recognized with the nation’s higher academic honors, including membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships, National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities awards, and Emmy Awards.

Hofstra’s distinctive, 97-hectare campus, a recognized arboretum, is located 40 kilometers from New York City. The campus features state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including a converged newsroom and multimedia classroom, one of the most advanced academic trading rooms in the nation, six theaters, an accredited museum and a rooftop observatory. The Hofstra libraries provide 24/7 electronic access to more than 95,000 journals and electronic books and contain 1.2 million print volumes. Additionally, there are 37 residence halls, 20 eateries, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and extensive athletic and new fitness facilities.

Financial Aid

Is financial aid available for international students?
Yes, Hofstra offers academic scholarships to international students who qualify. Hofstra does not offer need-based scholarships or need-based financial aid.

Student Activities and Campus Life

Hofstra University provides a student-centered experience, with programs that support an engaged and diverse educational community. Our goal is to promote student learning, growth, and success, in and out of the classroom. There are many resources to create an active and engaging campus and learning environment, including a diverse mix of cultural, social, athletic and recreational activities designed to deliver the full college experience. Hofstra offers students the opportunity to live and learn on our beautiful, 97 hectare campus on Long Island and have easy access to the academic, cultural and career opportunities in the New York City metropolitan area. Over 200 student clubs and organizations and 500 cultural and artistic events on campus annually provide a rich and engaging atmosphere for our students. The campus provides students access to 6 theaters, a museum and arboretum, 17 varsity sports teams, recreations and intramural sports programs and facilities, a swim center and more.

Though all of our student affairs, athletics, and campus life activities for students are open to all students, the Office of Multicultural and International Student Programs (MISPO) coordinates a special orientation for all new international students, in addition to planning various programs throughout the year to help international students connect with their peers and acculturate to the U.S. and University. MISPO also plans a variety of cultural and diversity education programming for the campus community at Hofstra. We also coordinate various cultural-themed heritage months for the University, including Hispanic Heritage Month (October), Diversity of Lifestyles Month (November), Black History Month (February), Women’s History Month (March), and Asian-Pacific Islander Heritage Month (April) and other major events like National Coming Out Day (October 11th). We plan a wide variety of social and cultural events and trips around the metro New York area for the international student community. International students directly contribute to the global nature of Hofstra University by bringing our world to the classrooms and student life experiences of the campus.
