English as a Second Language Program and Services

Geneseo does not offer an intensive English program on campus, but we do work with ONCAMPUS SUNY (at Morrisville State College) and ELS Language Centers. Students that do not meet the English proficiency requirement at the time of admission may be conditionally admitted to complete the intensive English program at ONCAMPUS SUNY or ELS.

Geneseo offers several ESOL courses (for credit) to help students improve English academic writing. These courses are intended for students that meet the language requirement but would like extra assistance.

International students may choose their preferred housing style as well as an LLC if they would like.

Student Activities and Campus Life

Geneseo achieves its educational mission by combining a rigorous curriculum with a rich co-curricular life. The student life experience at Geneseo is intentionally educational, and fosters widespread, substantive student engagement in carefully designed, developmentally based programs and services.

Opportunities for student engagement and learning within the department of Student Life include the all-college hour speaker series, Geneseo Late Knight, Living-Learning Communities, student organizations, Upstate Escapes, the Victor E. Knight mascot program, and Weeks of Welcome, as well as a number of student leadership and applied learning opportunities.

The Geneseo Athletics program is another point of pride on campus. With 20 NCAA Division III teams, many of which are highly ranked, Geneseo stands out among comparably sized colleges. During the 2016-17 academic year, Geneseo finished 13th in the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup standings, which measures the overall excellence of the nearly 450 Division III athletic programs in the nation.

With more than 200 student organizations (including 11 student multicultural groups), an active student government, community service opportunities, and a variety of distinguished speakers and cultural events each year, we are committed to providing opportunities for students to engage with their classmates, the local community, and the world around.
