College of Staten Island (CSI) offers a unique opportunity to students: to experience life in New York City while studying on a large and beautiful 204-acre campus. CSI is set on the largest physical New York City college site. Surrounded by a park-like landscape, the campus is centrally located on Staten Island. The campus includes 300 classrooms, laboratories and instructional spaces, study lounges, department and program offices, and faculty offices, along with extensive athletic facilities and an acclaimed Center for the Arts.

Great Variety of Programs

The College of Staten Island is a senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY) offering Doctoral programs, Advanced Certificate programs, and Master’s programs, as well as Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In addition, individual professional programs are accredited by their national associations. Computer Science, for example, is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, Engineering Science by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET,  Social Work by Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and Nursing by the Accrediting Commission for Education of Nurses (ACEN). CSI has an exceptionally well qualified faculty, committed to both research and teaching: they create and transmit knowledge and gladly mentor students majoring in their disciplines.

Services for International Students

College of Staten Island combines the best features of the U.S. system with special support and personal attention for international students from the day they inquire about admission until the day they graduate, diploma in hand. The Center for Global Engagement provides services for students and scholars from around the world. In addition to processing all required immigration documentation, the Center provides extensive orientation, ongoing advisement and assistance. It also oversees student activities and organizes a variety of on-campus programs throughout the year.

College was named as one of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Regional Universities in the North, while also earning a national ranking of no. 151 as a Best Undergraduate Engineering Program and no. 206 nationally as a Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program.

English as a Second Language Program and Services

Does your institution have an Intensive English Program? Yes

The English Language Institute (ELI) offers an exciting and innovative academic program for students learning English as a second language. Our course of study is designed to challenge and engage students. Students are immersed in the language, culture, and the ethnicity of New York City.

•           Semesters of 16 weeks (fall and spring) and summer terms of 6 weeks (June-August).

•           Semester: 18 hours of class per week / Summer: 22 hours of class per week.

•           Courses: Reading & Writing, Grammar, Communications, and TOEFL.

•           TOEFL ITP test at the end of each term to apply to any CUNY school degree.

•           Levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

•           Program open to students living in and outside the U.S.

The English Language Institute at the College of Staten Island/CUNY offers a complete assessment on how to apply from the very beginning, helping students with their student visas, arranging housing, etc.

ELI students will have an intensive English program with certified teachers who will make the class the best experience. Field trips are offered during the program where students go to museums or institutions and learn the language in a fun way. Learning at ELI with students from all over the world will make everybody practice the language only in English.
