English as a Second Language Program and Services

Does your institution have an Intensive English Program? Yes

The English Language Institute (ELI) offers an effective blend of academic training and real-world communication skills in a powerful schedule of four daily courses. Students study TOEFL Exam Preparation, Grammar in Use, Oral Communication, and Reading & Writing. At the end of each term, students take an official TOEFL examination and receive a College of Staten Island Certificate at a graduation ceremony.

Students learn the language through culture as well. We celebrate student birthdays every month, attend many on-campus events, and engage in project-based learning. In addition, the ELI organizes fun instructor-led excursions to Manhattan institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, Grand Central Station, and the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. Historical walking tours of lower Manhattan and trips to theater performances are also common events.

Class sizes are small, 8-16 students, and the professors are native speaking, certified university professors. The backgrounds of the students are very diverse. English is the only common language in the classroom. When students apply, receive individualized attention from the beginning. They will receive guidance, via email and WhatsApp, on the visa process, arranging housing, and more.

Can your institution issue an I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 Student Status to a student who has been admitted only to the Intensive English Program?
Yes
