College Profile
Located in the heart of New York City, Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC),
part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, offers students a dynamic and
accessible pathway to academic, professional, and personal success. With a diverse and
vibrant student body representing over 150 countries, BMCC provides a truly global learning
environment where different perspectives are not only welcomed but celebrated.
At BMCC, students are empowered to explore their interests while building a strong
academic foundation. The college offers a wide range of associate degree programs designed
to prepare students for seamless transfer to four-year institutions or immediate entry into the
workforce. Through small class sizes and dedicated faculty, students receive personalized
support and mentorship throughout their academic journey.
One of BMCC’s greatest strengths is its location. Situated in downtown Manhattan, students
have direct access to one of the world’s leading economic, cultural, and professional hubs.
This creates unique opportunities for internships, networking, and real-world experiences that
complement classroom learning.
BMCC is deeply committed to student success. From academic advising and career services
to leadership programs and experiential learning opportunities, the college provides a
comprehensive support system to help students achieve their goals. International students, in
particular, benefit from specialized services through the International Student Services Office
(ISSO), which offers guidance on immigration, employment, and adjustment to life in the
United States.
Affordability is another key advantage. As one of the most cost-effective colleges in New
York City, BMCC offers high-quality education at an accessible tuition rate, making it an
excellent starting point for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the U.S. Additionally,
students may have access to scholarships and professional development opportunities that
further enhance their academic experience.
Beyond academics, BMCC encourages students to engage in campus life and global
experiences. Through study abroad programs, student organizations, and leadership
initiatives, students are able to develop confidence, cultural awareness, and a strong sense of
community.
At BMCC, students are not just earning a degree, they are building a future. With its
commitment to excellence, diversity, and opportunity, BMCC serves as a launching pad for
students to achieve their ambitions and thrive in an ever-changing world.

International Student Housing Options
BMCC does not provide on-campus housing. As a commuter college in New York City, most students live across the five boroughs or nearby New Jersey, with typical commutes ranging from 30 to 60 minutes by public transportation.
One accommodation option is a residence hall. As part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, BMCC students may apply to live in CUNY residence halls. For more information: Residence Life – The City University of New York
Many students also arrange their own housing, such as renting or subletting rooms in shared apartments. For more information, please explore the following links: https://junehomes.com/ , https://www.roomrs.com/room-rentals
Additionally, CUNY offers a Housing Access Pilot program that provides support for students who meet specific eligibility criteria and may need assistance securing stable housing. For more information: Housing Access Pilot – The City University of New York
Collaborative Programs
BMCC offers global learning opportunities through its Global Exchanges and Experiences programs, designed to broaden students’ perspectives and prepare them for a globalized world. Through immersive academic travel, students gain firsthand insight into different cultures, economies, and societies while building skills for today’s dynamic workforce: https://www.bmcc.cuny.edu/academics/success-programs/study-abroad/
BMCC provides 3-credit study abroad programs during the winter and summer terms, open to students of all majors. These faculty-led programs typically last 2–4 weeks and combine travel with academic coursework.
Students can also explore additional opportunities through CUNY and partner-affiliated programs, expanding access to destinations such as France, Spain, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, Japan, and the Netherlands, and more.
First Year, Transfer, and Graduate Students
BMCC accepts Freshman Applicants (completion of US-high school level education) and Transfer Applicants who, in their last semester at their previous institution of higher education, were in good academic standing, with a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
Financial Aid
While international students are not eligible for U.S. federal financial aid due to their non-immigrant status, BMCC remains an affordable pathway toward a bachelor’s degree. International students may also apply for a variety of scholarships offered through BMCC and CUNY.
Student Activities and Campus Life
BMCC has over 65 student clubs. We also offer a full range of recreational activities, including swimming, aerobics and weight training. Intercollegiate teams are offered in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
We have a Center for Career Development, a leadership academy (BOLT), an ESL Lab, a Math Lab, a Writing Center, LGBTQ Services, a Student Government Association, and a Women’s Resource Center. The Office of Student Activities (OSA) plans and coordinates educational, cultural and social programs for BMCC students.
