Alfred State is part of the largest, most comprehensive public higher education system in the United States, the State University of New York (SUNY). U.S. News & World Report ranks Alfred State Number 1 northern regional college. We are located in the foothills of the Alleghany Mountains in Alfred, New York. The community is peaceful, safe, and the people are very friendly and helpful to students.

At Alfred State, you’ll have the chance to choose from over 80 different majors in agriculture, allied health, applied technology, business, engineering technology, and liberal arts and sciences at the baccalaureate, associate, and certificate levels. You’ll study in small classes (average size of 16 students) with faculty members whose main focus is on teaching and who are experts in their particular fields. Scholarships are available for qualified students. Outside the classroom, you’ll choose from a variety of lifestyle options available in one of our 14 residence halls. Housing is guaranteed for all accepted students. You’ll meet new friends in the residence halls by joining one or more of our 90 clubs and organizations, or by competing on one of our 18 intercollegiate sports teams. Student Activities and Campus Life

Alfred State has about 90 different clubs and organizations to choose from. Movies, comedy performances, concerts, cultural events, student newspaper, and drama club are all just a part of what happens on campus. There are also 18 different NCAA III intercollegiate sports on campus, as well as a variety of intramural clubs to choose from.  The International Club is one of the largest and most active clubs on campus, organizing cultural events each week. If a club of interest does not exist on campus, students have the opportunity to create and run such clubs.

I-20 only. Alfred State works with the State University system administration to issue DS-2019 forms.

Is financial aid available for international students?
Yes. Three scholarships are automatically awarded to international students who qualify. An application is not necessary for these scholarships. These scholarships are only available to students beginning their studies in August.

International Excellence Scholarship
Awards up to $7,000 to international students who meet two of the following criteria: 213 TOEFL exam score (79-80 on Internet-based exam, 550 on paper exam), 3.25 college grade point average (90 overall high school average may be substituted), and/or 1200 (critical reading and math) combined SAT.

International Merit Scholarship
Awards up to $3,000 to international students who meet two of the following criteria: 195 TOEFL exam score (71 on Internet-based exam, 525 on paper exam), 3.0 college grade point average (an 88 overall high school average may be substituted), and/or 1100 (critical reading and math) SAT.

International Cultural Scholarship

Offers up to $3,000 annually to accepted international students who have high school GPA of 2.5
