Our goal is to inspire a lifelong passion for learning and to empower a diverse population of students to succeed as citizens of a challenging world.

Broad Array of High-Quality Academic Programs
As the largest comprehensive “university college” in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, Buffalo State offers more than 170 undergraduate programs with 11 honors options, 18 post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs, and more than 65 opportunities for graduate study. At the same time, the college is recognized for its excellence in classroom teaching and scholarship and is known for its small class sizes—nearly 90 percent of all classes have fewer than 40 students. Buffalo State offers the perfect academic blend: small college learning environments coupled with large university opportunities.

Diverse and Creative Environment
Buffalo State is among the most diverse colleges in the SUNY system, a characteristic that’s reflected in the myriad of people, ideas, experiences, and program offerings found here. This diverse and creative environment fosters student growth and success.

Hands-on Learning Opportunities
Buffalo State takes advantage of its location in the second-largest city in New York State by offering extensive undergraduate research opportunities, internships, service-learning programs, and career development services that benefit students and the community. As a result, job possibilities for graduates are strong and varied.

Smart Educational Investment
Buffalo State is one of the most affordable universities—public or private—in New York and beyond and we offer financial aid to approximately 85 percent of our undergraduates, with an average award package of more than $12,000. Our graduates join a career network of more than 100,000 Buffalo State alumni (and more than 2.4 million SUNY alumni) living around the globe. A SUNY diploma has instant credibility wherever you go.

In the Heart of Buffalo’s Cultural Corridor
The campus is located on a 125-acre parcel in Buffalo’s museum district, adjacent to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Delaware Park. The Elmwood Village neighborhood is lined with a vibrant mix of trendy cafés, restaurants, shops, and Victorian-style housing. On campus, the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall, Burchfield Penney Art Center, Warren Enters Theatre, Czurles-Nelson Gallery, and Bacon Student Art Gallery place the arts and creativity right at students’ fingertips.

English as a Second Language Program and Services

ESL helps students with varying levels of English proficiency through coursework, interaction with native speakers of English, and individualized language practice. The program consists of six levels of English language study, each offered during our fall, spring, and summer terms. Each level has 20 hours of class time per week, plus an additional 3 hours of small conversation group practice. Students may study up to 1 year in the ESL program. ESL courses do not provide college credit.
