Technology is part of the St. John’s experience. Students have access to St. John’s sophisticated academic software, including Tell Me More language-learning software. In addition, St. John’s has invested more than $20 million to upgrade its research labs, computer labs, and other science facilities.

You will enjoy life at either of St. John’s two residential New York

City locations: the 96.5-acre Queens campus or the 16.5-acre Staten Island campus, as well as our non-residential campus in Manhattan. We also have international campuses in Rome, Italy; Paris, France; and a location in Seville, Spain.

Campus life features 180 student clubs, fraternities, sororities, and an active campus ministry. We also offer the excitement of our Division I BIG EAST men’s and women’s athletic teams.

On our Queens campus, ultramodern residence halls form a Residence Village with some suite-style accommodations, 24-hour security, ample lounges, and a separate dining hall. Juniors and seniors also have the option of townhouse-style residence halls adjacent to the Residence Village. All are a short walk to classroom buildings, athletic facilities, cafeterias, and the University Library.

The Staten Island campus offers modern, apartment-style student residences adjacent to the campus. Featuring kitchens and common lounges, the residences are grouped around a grassy courtyard where students gather to chat, toss Frisbees, or just take in the sun.

Does your institution provide courses of English as a Second Language to admitted students?
Yes

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at St. John’s University, housed in the Department of Languages and Literatures, provides non-native English speakers with the language skills necessary to succeed in both academic and professional settings. The comprehensive program includes language evaluation, advisement, instruction, and cultural orientation.

Undergraduate students in the ESL program receive credit toward their degrees and fulfill their language requirements, while graduate students receive three credits toward full-time visa status.

International Student Housing Options

We have many residence halls that offer a variety of living options, including traditional and suite-style halls as well as apartment style housing. All rooms include basic cable, utilities, and Wi-Fi at no additional cost. (In the Goethals Apartments, cable, utilities, and internet are not included and have to be purchased separately.)

Incoming freshmen are assigned to a traditional or suite-style freshman residence hall to enhance the first-year experience. The Freshman Center works closely with these halls to bring unique opportunities to freshman residents. Upperclass residents have the opportunity to select from one of our suite-style residence halls. These halls, through programming and other initiatives, these halls provide environments that promote continued growth and independence.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is offered to students who are permanent U.S. residents or citizens. International students are eligible for academic scholarships. Academic scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to a small number of applicants with outstanding academic records. A combined Critical Reading and Math SAT score of 1000 is required to be considered for scholarships. Please visit our scholarships page for information.
