College Profile

Founded in 1889, the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Plattsburgh is a small, public, accredited institution in New York State. Plattsburgh offers over 60 majors including Accounting, Finance, International Business, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Hospitality Management, Biochemistry, Medical Technology, Communications, and Studio Art. We also offer English as a Second Language (ESL) program to help students improve their English prior to enrollment in full-time academic study.

Plattsburgh is surrounded by the natural beauty of northern New York State, 100 km south of Montreal, Canada. From the window of your residence hall, you can see the Adirondack Mountains of New York, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and nearby Lake Champlain. Our students enjoy canoeing, hiking, and swimming in the summer and ice skating, snowshoeing, and skiing in the winter.

SUNY Plattsburgh enrolls approximately 350 international students from more than 60 countries making it the most globally diverse college within the 64-campus SUNY system. From your first day on campus, our supportive staff will welcome you to our friendly, home-away-from-home environment. Our comprehensive new student orientation program ensures a smooth start to academic life in the United States, followed by regular events and activities for you to explore our beautiful region and share your culture with others.

Our students enjoy on campus living and learning experiences with benefits similar to that of many private colleges: low student-faculty ratio, small classes, and instruction by faculty, not graduate students. U.S. News & World Report lists SUNY Plattsburgh among the top schools in “America’s Best Colleges.” Our professors are leaders in their fields and mentors to their students. The college’s commitment to academic excellence is evident in its diverse academic programs, distinguished faculty, cutting-edge research, and plentiful internships. With so many opportunities for undergraduate research and hands-on learning, our graduates are well-prepared for employment or further study. Imagine what you will accomplish!
