The English Language Institute (ELI) at LIU Post offers a special program for international students who want to improve their English skills and experience life at a prestigious American university.
The ELI program provides English as a Second Language courses to non-English speakers who are seeking admission to LIU Post to pursue a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree.
LIU Post provides this service to assist you in satisfying the language requirements for undergraduate or graduate study.

Yes, Welcome to your new home away from home! LIU Post is recognized as one of the safest and most beautiful college campuses in the country. Eight campus residence halls are tailored to individual needs, from quiet study to semi-private suites. The majority of our residential population is comprised of undergraduate students and some graduate students enrolled in full-time study.
As a residential student, you will be part of an exciting college community that attracts students from all over the world. You will be living right in the heart of the action, minutes away from club meetings and concerts, free weekend movies at the Hillwood Commons cinema, and major events like Homecoming and the Pratt After Dark Carnival. First Year, Transfer, and Graduate Students

The following are the admission requirements for international freshman and transfer students who are applying to a bachelor’s degree program at LIU Post. Applicants should submit the following documents to the International Admissions Office. All of the credentials listed below must be written in English. All translations must be certified/official.
To apply for admission, please follow these steps.
1. Long Island University Online Application for Admission
Applicants to LIU Post must complete the Long Island University Online Application for Admission. The application can be obtained at www.liu.edu/post/apply. In the field marked “Admit Type” select “International Freshman” or “International Transfer” depending on your status.
A print version of the Application for Admission can be downloaded from our Web site. You can also request that an application be mailed to you by calling 1-516-299-2900 or email@example.com.
2. Application Fee
Submit a non-refundable application fee of $50 USD made payable to Long Island University. International applicants must pay the fee in U.S. dollars by sending a money order or check to: the Office of Student Financial Services, LIU Post, 720 Northern Boulevard, Brookville, N.Y. 11548-1300 USA. You can also pay by credit card by printing the Credit Card Authorization form at www.liu.edu/post/forms or by calling 1-516-299-2323. Cash, international postal money orders or Eurochecks are not accepted.
The application fee is waived only for the following applicants:
*Long Island University alumni (those holding a Long Island University degree or graduate certificate)
*Current Long Island University student pursuing a degree or certificate at any Long Island University campus
3. Personal Statement
Please write an essay in English describing your background, special interests, future plans and your reasons for wanting to attend LIU Post.
Official degree noted-transcripts are required. Student copies are not acceptable. LIU Post reserves the right to ask for a professional evaluation of your transcripts to aid in our admissions decision-making process. All transcripts must be sent from your school(s) directly to LIU Post. Transcripts must be in English or officially translated into English.
* Freshman applicants must submit transcripts of all completed secondary education and certified records of any national examinations required for completion of secondary education.
* Transfer applicants must submit transcripts of all postsecondary (college/university level) education. Secondary (high school) education transcripts are required only if the student has completed fewer than one year of university-level work. Students may be required to have their prior course work evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (www.naces.org) to validate U.S. equivalency or accreditation.

5. SAT or ACT Examination Results
SAT and ACT test results are not required but should be submitted by freshman applicants whose native language is English, who have attended high school in the U.S., or who have attended a high school where English is the sole language of instruction. International students who are receiving NCAA athletic scholarships are required to submit SAT or ACT scores. The SAT requirements are a minimum combined score of 820. ACT requirements are a sum score of at least a 68. Exams must be taken in English.
6. Letters of Recommendation
Letters of Recommendationÿare not required, but can add to the strength of any application. For example, your professors and work managers can provide letters of recommendation on official letterhead.
7. English Language Proficiency
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English. The TOEFL or IELTS is generally not required of candidates who have studied for at least two years at an accredited high school or post-secondary institution where English is the only method of instruction, unless there is a need for additional evidence of proficiency in English upon review of other academic credentials.
General scores are listed below. Certain programs require higher scores. Students must check for specific program requirements.
UNDERGRADUATE: Minimum TOEFL score for admission: 71 Internet-based score (197 computer based, 527 paper-based score)
Minimum IELTS score for admission: 6.0
GRADUATE: Minimum TOEFL score for admission: 79 Internet-based score (213 computer based, 550 paper-based score)
Minimum IELTS score for admission: 6.5
Students who have a TOEFL or IELTS score below the required minimum but who are academically admissible can qualify for conditional admission. This requires successful completion of the LIU Post English Language Institute prior to enrollment in any academic course work.
8. Form I-20 for Applicants Seeking F1 Student Visa
The Form I-20 Application certifies that you have been accepted for a full course of study and have proven to Long Island University that you have sufficient funds to study and live in the United States. You are encouraged to complete and submit the Form I-20 Application and mail it to the International Admissions Office along with your admissions application. 9. Passport and Identification
