Adelphi University is a private, liberal arts institution ranked as a Best College by U.S. News & World Report a Top College by Forbes and a Best College for Your Money by Money magazine. It is located in Garden City, New York, just 23 miles from New York City. There are more than 700 international undergraduate and graduate students from 58 countries on our beautiful, safe campus. Founded in 1896, Adelphi is known for its personalized approach to learning, offering students robust academic support and guidance from faculty advisers. Its Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, College of Nursing and Public Health, Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, College of Education and Health Sciences, and School of Social Work offer 60 undergraduate and 65 graduate areas of study. Students who do not meet entrance requirements may enter through Adelphi University International, a pathway program providing academic and cultural support, including intensive English language classes and dedicated advisers. All international students receive support and assistance from Adelphi’s Office of International Services.

Campus Features

Adelphi’s picturesque 75-acre campus is located just 23 miles from New York City, 20 minutes from Long Island beaches and 10 minutes from one of the largest shopping malls in the United States. The University provides free shuttle bus service to local railroad stations, bus stations, shopping centers and more.

Adelphi’s location of Garden City, New York, was recently ranked as one of the safest towns on Long Island. Our campus Department of Public Safety and Transportation provides safety services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Residence halls are secured at all times and are only accessible to students with the proper Adelphi ID card specific to that hall, ensuring the safety of all residents. Parking is free and accessible to all students registered through our Department of Public Safety and Transportation.

Adelphi offers many opportunities for domestic and international students to find on-campus employment. The Interfaith Center is open to the entire Adelphi community, with opportunities for worship and fellowship.

Adelphi has more than 80 student clubs and organizations, from the South Asian Student Association and other diversity clubs to professional clubs like the Accounting Society, plus numerous fraternities and sororities. Adelphi also has 23 NCAA Division II athletic teams to follow or play on, mostly competing in the Northeast-10 Conference—as well as many clubs and intramural sports available for students to join, from baseball and badminton to dance and fencing.

Adelphi has seven residence halls, housing about 1,300 undergraduate students. Noteworthy campus buildings include the 100,000-square-foot Nexus Building, which houses the Office of University Admissions, classrooms and the College of Nursing and Public Health as well as state-of-the-art simulation laboratories for nursing students; the Center for Recreation and Sports, which contains an indoor track, three-court gym and a four-lane, 25-yard swimming pool; and the Performing Arts Center, whose five intimate venues are used throughout the year by students, faculty and star performers.

Does Adelphi have an Intensive English Program?
Adelphi University offers the Intensive English Program for international students who qualify academically and can benefit from a focused, individualized program to enhance their English abilities and improve their academic writing, speaking, reading and listening abilities. International Student Housing Options

Is on-campus housing available for international students?
Adelphi has seven residence halls on its Garden City campus, available to undergraduate students. Each of our seven residential communities provides support and convenience, as well as opportunities for personal growth, cultural exploration and interaction with peers and staff. The Office of Residential Life and Housing facilitates opportunities for students to live off campus both through University-affiliated and non-affiliated housing options. Off-campus housing options include many near Adelphi’s campus in Garden City, nearby on Long Island and near the Manhattan Center, with possible housing options in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

First Year, Transfer, and Graduate Students

Adelphi University encourages applicants to apply from all over the world to apply at any point in their academic careers. International students pursuing standard entry must meet our requirements of 80 IBT TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS for admission. Students who fall below these requirements may be considered for one of our many pathway programs.
